Essay Topics?

Dearest CC,
I have thought of a few essay topics that I may want to write for the Common App:

The Meaning of Love

The Power of Giving (something small–>big impact)

Are these wayyy off for a college essay?
Criticism is welcome.

Thanks,
bryan

They seem ridiculously clich

no
first of all those topics are not about yourself
second of all you’re supposed to write about something small and not improtant and make it important

the previous posters are right. neither of these would be good essay topics unless you’re an astonishingly brilliant writer (which you might well be, we don’t know ^.^) and can make them personal.

I wrote my common app essay on the swingset in my backyard and got accepted or waitlisted into all the colleges I applied to (and they weren’t upper podunk state either :p). From what I’ve read the admissions monkeys like to see small deep slivers of your life rather than a highschooler trying to take on ridiculously enormous and vague cliches, because to be honest we’re all too young to write coherent essay on teh power of wuv.
