Essay worries.

I didn’t have to turn in an essay for Mills college they just wanted a writing sample. But i was rejected. I am applying to UC Merced and Colorado state university they require an essay. I want to write about how I over came some problems to finish high school. Do I need to write in detail why I want to go to those schools.

writing in detail helps alot. it shows interest and that you really care about getting into their college. being general doesn’t help you a whole lot. I think if you combine how you overcame your obstacles with the reasons why you want to attend their school, the essay would turn out great!

I have focused on my determination to do school work but I’m having a hard time being positive because I have not been able to overcome everything yet. I was rejected from Mills college and I’m hoping to get into merced. I wish i knew why I was rejected.

I have part of it already written. I would like some one who has already been to a college take a look at it. I don’t know if it’s from the right perspective and how professional it needs to look.

bump I really need some more essay help. I don’t have a lot of people to talk to about this.

If you were a qualified applicant, it hurts, we’re sorry. But they simply cannot take all the kids who are good candidates. That’s all it is. Mills is small. The essay: you need to be careful before “writing in detail.” The idea is to write with “carefully chosen” detail- just enough supporting details that show (not tell) the reader. The essay should show something about yourself, how something turned you around, revealed what’s truly important to you, inspired you- and how it has changed (more or less) your life since. Don’t make it a lukewarm description of what happened when- I had to repeat this class and I couldn’t get scheduled for that class, so it put me behind and then I had to drop out to work and I missed that class. No, the essay should show how you found the determination to succeed. The essay is not about why you want to go to their college. Some schools do have a short-answer question, eg, “Why do you want to attend CO State?” Good Luck.

how much is to much detail my essay is around 700 words. I have what i over came and why I’m choosing what to study.

It’s not supposed to be just about what you overcame.
It is supp to be HOW you overcame, what made you determined to overcome, how you found strength to keep going. How it has changed you as a person. See the difference?

I do and I did write what I thought was a good essay. I was accepted into one of the 3 schools I picked. but I’m kinda wondering what went wrong with the other two and if the one I can go to was a good choice.
