sorry to post it here
but i finished my supplemental essays but not the common app YIKES
i just dont know what i should write about
i dont know what would be unique and not cliche
can someone give me some ideas of what would be unique?
can ppl give me a list of what are topics that are cliche and i should avoid?
thanks so much!

Avoid:
- travel “by the end, we discovered we were not so different after all…”
- making the winning _____ of the game…it’s been done to death
- most influential person: my mother/father (unless there’s some extenuating topic)
- religion, as in “who is God?” hard to do w/out sounding flaky
- politics…see #7
- my haircut helped me become a different person
- “big” ideas…world topics: hard to do in 500 words
- “my life”…again, hard to do in 500 words

Best topics:
the small ones that show who you are, how you think, how you’ve ‘grown’

Good list by Zweebopp.

Also, if you do an influential character or famous individual, avoid the really big ones - even if Albert Einstein or MLK really influenced you in much of your life, I’m guessing that they have also influenced thousands of other people applying to the same schools. Picking someone truly close and unique to you - think of your favorite books, plays, etc. Or someone in your hometown you’re really close to/find interesting. It will show a LOT more about you to do someone lesser known by important to you than if you talk about the major impact Abraham Lincoln had on your life.
