Essays--where are you at?

I’m not finished with mine, but I’m at 816 words this moment, and wondering if that’s much too long… I do love my topic.

Too long and a reader may get a bit annoyed…especially after having read hundreds of other essays hours before. I’d cut it down a bit

For the sake of the admission officers, keep it to one page. Change the margins to make them smaller, but keep it to one page.

should it be double spaced?

652 as of now

mtngoat, no.

Hope you aren’t ending your sentences in prepositions like you did in the title of this thread…

I have my idea in hand and am ready to run with it. Just haven’t heard the starter’s pistol yet…probably because I still have summer reading to do.

I cut mine down to exactly 500, but it sucks now. It was originally about 650.

ha epercival… I just working on an awkward sentence, and I thought, “Dare I end this sentence with a preposition?” And then I decided, “No.”

mj93, no to my word count or no to double spaced?

first draft done! = 965 words! = @$@%!^&*

What is the best number of words for the Long Common App Essay? Because it only states the minimum word count not the maximum, I heard somewhere that it is around 500 words.

It is an unwritten code in a way.

I still have a string of ideas, not sure where to go yet. :(

^ same here!

I have drafts of all my longer essays (~500 word essays)

I haven’t finished drafts on all of my shorter essays.

I can’t do it, seems like an insurmountable task. not sure what i’m going to do about that…

Can somone tell me what the best word count is for the long essay?

Some colleges expect that the word count should be from 350-500 words long, 500 words max. Others suggest 500-700 words. I’d say as a general rule, don’t go over 750 words, and don’t go over one page for sure (and make sure the font isn’t in size 8 either, size 12 standard fonts only). No double spacing unless the college specifies it.

I’ve come up with quite a few ideas, and have written a couple first drafts of essays, although they are very unpolished so far.

If you have a zillion ideas floating around in your head but no idea where to start, scribble everything out onto a piece of paper. (That is perhaps the hardest thing to do). If you can’t think up of anything to say, then maybe you might not feel passionate enough about it to write an interesting essay; it wouldn’t be a good topic. Once an idea is down on a piece of paper, then more supporting info should flow a bit easier into a story (hopefully)

0 words, baby…eep
