Essential?

So my parents are pushing the whole “You need to be essential” thing. And by essential, they mean that if there’s ever a big breakout or something, I’d be deemed important enough to get one of the first doses of vaccinations. The thing is, I’m kinda humanities-focused (leaning towards IR and history right now), and humanities don’t usually make you essential. I do have some interest in biology, however, especially in the field of genetics. But I really don’t want to be a doctor, or, rather, a practicing doctor.

It’s a bit early for this (I’m only a rising junior), but if my ambitions changed, I would need to rethink the APs I’m taking and some of them have pre-requisites. Any suggestions as to what I should do?

Your parents are really worried about you being “essential” enough to get a vaccine if a worldwide epedemic breaks out?

That is bizarre.

yeah your parents are pretty freaky…I am speechless. Do what YOU want. Don’t worry about your parents, you have to start making your own desicions sometime, college is as good a time as any
