Establishing permanent residency in UG before med school?

Hi, I was wondering is it possible to go to UG for 4 years or so and establish permanent residency before med school (assuming you plan to go straighy from UG to Med school)? If not, if the process is started in freshman year how long would it take for it to be completed?

I ask because I know internationals have <1% chance of acceptance into a US med school and the US is one of the places where I’d like to practice and I know the process is significantly harder if one went to an international school with about a 50% chance of simply matching into ANY residencies; a whole lot of which is in internal medicine and family medicine.

You need to contact an immigration lawyer for information regarding your particular situation.

Are you even eligible for permanent resident status?

Basically unless you are seeking asylum, marrying a US resident, or have an employer willing to sponsor you, you going to wait a verrrrry long time.

And even IF you’re marrying an US citizen, the process is long and expensive. Son of friend met his wife in Peace Corp in Kazakhstan. It took 3.5 years and over $10,000 in legal fees to get her fiancee visa. And while she awaiting her visa, she was not allowed to enter the US. If she entered, she had to go the end of line for visa processing and start the waiting period all over again.

the chances of becoming a resident in 4 years is less than that of acceptance to med school as an international.
