I just did my first sat practice test from the blue college board book, and I scored an 800 in math( yipee!), and unfortunately, a 630 in CR and a 690-630 in Writing- I’m averaging this because I did not write the essay, although I can estimate that I would at this level score around 8-12. So I’m doing this all for the first time, just went through all the intro the sections part of the book and did the test, and this is horrible. I’m super scared, like really very scared, because I really thought my English was better than that. So it comes to around 2000, assuming the worst possible essay score. I really want to improve my score to 2300+ at the very least. Would this be possible without any training classes and just practise? I’m in India by the way, so resources are kinda limited. Books are available, just not billions of them. If I can improve past the 2300 barrier, what should I do, book wise and practise wise to get there? Thanks for any help.

The writing section is the easiest section to improve your score in. There are just certain grammar rules that are repeated in the SAT. You should be able to get a 10 on the essay consistently with some practice. When I took it, I always wrote a 4 paragraph essay (intro, 2 examples, conclusion). I jumped to a 600 to 780 to 800 in the times I took the SAT. Most difficult to improve was critical reading in my opinion. Try other books like Barron’s, although your score in that book will be much lower than your actual score due to the greater degree of difficulty of the problems.

You can’t really estimate your writing score unless you’ve actually taken a practice writing test TIMED. During the day of the test, who’s to say that you will get nervous and lose focus?

Overall, I would suggest using the: “How to score a 12 in 12 days” thread, as it most referred to. And writing IS indeed the most easiest section to improve

Thanks, but what do I do about CR?

@CompSciKid703 Since your new to CC, I’m going to assume it’s your first time hearing about Direct Hits ^-^

I would recommend this “Direct Hits” volume 1 and 2 for the core vocab words that will be found on CR. This will help you effectively complete SC (sentence completions) at ease and also have a strong interpretation of the passages in the section :)
