There is nothing unethical about using ratemyprofessor. You can avoid wasting money on disorganized and poor instructors. Because everyone has equal access to the site, it’s not obtaining an unfair advantage. I know I use the site just to make sure the professor has mostly positive comments, not to get “easy A’s.” Plus grad schools know which classes are considered more difficult. An A in an Intro to film course or for a PE credit will not be as respected, generally, as one in organic chem or calc.

Geez kid, I’ve never seen someone get so defensive. First of all, a huge difference between the two parts of your analogy is that you use your language every day (if your parents speak Chinese at home, as said in the rule); AP Calc students have not internalized Calculus like that in one semester of high school.

That said, it’s not like I even support kids who take non-language classes to get easy A’s. Another example is different requirements in different departments: I took a logic course in Philosophy for fun, on top of multiple math classes. When I decided to major in CS I found out that I would have to take a logic/discrete math course in the CS department that covered material that I’ve seen before. I could have taken it for the easy A, but I appealed to replace it with a higher level course in the CS department. And not even because I thought it was unethical, but because I thought it would be boring to sit through stuff I already learned!

Long story short, stop trying to rationalize, especially when your point is “my morals are only AS bad as yours.”
