Hello all. Are doctors of certain races expected to be able to speak his/her ethnic language fluently? For instance, I am Korean and if I became a doctor, would I be assigned all of the Korean patients and would I have a hard time getting a hospital to accept me in if I am not able to speak Korean fluently?

Hah – by that logic, I’d get assigned all of Attila’s descendants. A dangerous lot, they are.

Probably Not. Just because you are a certain ethnicity doesn’t mean that you know that language.

my gaelic is horrible;

Seems to me it’d be quite racist to expect everyone who “looked Korean” to be able to speak Korean at such a level that they could conduct medical practice. No one expects Barack Obama to run his campaign in American English and Swahili, for example.

So don’t worry about it.
If you can practice in English and Korean, that’s great.

haha alright thank you

Oh, I do. Swahili or bust, that’s my motto.
