I am an Indian girl who has done ballet for the majority of my life. I have relatively good grades, considering I attend ballet classes everyday after school for two hours and 4 hour rehearsals on the saturdays. Do you think that ballet will hurt my chances, since other Indians are typically inclined to more academic extracurriculars, or would it improve my chances, as it is unique for an Indian to pursue an artsy afterschool activity? I don’t plan on becoming a ballerina, I actually want to go pre-med. I wouldn’t mind getting a minor or a certificate in dance, however, as it really is my passion. If you need any other details about my life please ask me, as I really do want to know how ballet will impact my college admissions. Thanks!
I think ballet would set you apart from other indian applicants, as ballet is not that common among indian females! I think its a positive thing to do! good luck:)
It might be a unique EC and yield an interesting essay about dance/culture, but if you aren’t planning on auditioning for an art school for dance, I don’t think being an Indian ballerina will have a significant impact on college admissions.
An Indian girl who dances? Not unusual at all. The only thing unusual here is that it’s not Bharata Natyam (or in addition to BN). Those that don’t dance, sing. (Yes, we have Indians in the family…and the girls all either dance or sing. In our community, it’s practically mandatory.)
Which doesn’t mean you shouldn’t continue with ballet. Just do it because you enjoy it.
It’s a good thing. Keep it up!
