Going on about a 3-week cruise to Norway, Denmark (Copenhagen), Talinn, Poland (Gdansk), Germany (Berlin), Russia (St. Petersburg), and Sweden (Stockholm)-- June departure-- on the Viking Star. Will be glad when my wife retires so we can travel to Europe in the Spring when the crowds are lighter. This is our first trip to Scandinavia. Last year we had some minor issues with our credit card not having a chip on it, especially in Austria, while on our river cruise. This year, I ordered our replacement cards that now contain a chip.
Any other words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated…
D2 and I are going to Italy beginning of Jun - going to Lake Como and Florence. Hoping Euro stays where it is. I see shoes and bags in our future. @Mom22039 - check out http://www.cosstores.com/us/Women for some comfortable travel clothing. The material is very nice and it is fairly priced.
We’re going with another couple for about 16 days in June to Paris, Loire Valley, Budapest and Prague. Then dh and our friends are heading home and my kids and I are joining my family in Italy. I’m so excited!
Going to Scandinavia to make sure Mr. does not miss a very important meeting and his return flight by sleeping past the events. Ahhh… There is nothing like a 3-day trip to Europe.
In retirement, I want to sit on my Hawaiian lanai, read all of the books mentioned in the Best Book thread, and simply enjoy the sun. No. Long. Flights. No. Crowded. Cities. No. Crazy. Foreigners.
Somehow, a 3-day trip to Europe isn’t even possible from here. You’d spend more time in transit than at your destination. @BunsenBurner, make sure you use enough sunscreen with our wicked UV rays! We don’t want you giving our dermatologists too much business! I like just sitting on my couch in the living room–not partial to sun or bugs.
We are thinking of a trip to Scotland in the fall when DS is studying there for the semester. Will probably do a few days in England as well. Any tips?
No real advice but enjoy Stockholm! What will you be doing there? The Vassa is very well displayed and so interesting. You probably won’t be interested in the Pippi Longstocking museum but it is close to the Vassa. We loved our visit to Stockholm. Enjoy!
Pizzagirl, you will absolutely love both cities. What a great way to celebrate! Carache12, we will be doing the Vassa and a waterways tour in Stockholm. Forgot to mention, also seeing Helsinki. We booked a 2-day, backed-to-back, 16-hour each day tour while in St. Petersburg of ALL the major highlights. Will rest when we return home.
The 3 week cruise sounds like a great trip. H travels to Scandinavia and Germany once or twice a year for business, but so far trips haven’t been planned far enough in advance for me to tag along.
We were in Barcelona, London and Paris last October and are thinking about going back to London to see friends and family in the fall. We would stay in Kent with friends who want us to travel to Prague and Budapest with them. H and I have never been to either of these places. We saw some good deals on British Airways flights a couple of weeks ago which prompted us to start thinking about a trip.
We also took a cruise on your exact itinerary-cities 5 or 6 years ago; did the 2 day St. Petersburg tour also. Have fun!!
We will have a trip sometime in October to celebrate a big wedding anniversary. Haven’t decided where to go yet.
We’re doing Nice, Lake Como, Switzerland and then northern Provence in June. We just got new cards with chips by coincidence. What do you guys do about smart phones/GPS help?
Since you all can’t send me postcards , please come back and report on your trips! I’d love hear about them and what you enjoyed. Scandinavia, in particular, has been on my bucket list.
