Does anyone know anything about the European Graduate School - whether or not it’s legitimate or a scam.

It looks like this thread was deleted once it got out of control. It’s accredited in the Canton of Wallis (equivalent of a Swiss state), but some of the United States Accreditation is still in development. As an alumnus of the program, I can tell you first hand it was an excellent experience, and I have been promoted from ABD Lecturer to Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication and Media at SUNY New Paltz, having completed the degree. True, you have to pay for the Ph.D. (I did it through loans) while other programs may offer you a stipend, but as a fully employed academic, I didn’t have the luxury to take off for 3 to 4 years, and then hope the job market would balance out to find employment. As a working academic, I have found the college to be nothing short of marvelous. I had one on one dialogue with Zizek, Butler, Hardt, The Brothers Quay, Barbara Hammer, etc., and developed conference papers from my research I began in class. Also my dissertation has been accepted for publication. As this thread was ended a short while ago, I would like to be careful. I’m not employed by EGS, I’m not advertising their program (I’ll leave the advertising to the large schools paying for banner ads at the top of the College Confidential pages). I just would like to say that EGS worked for me in all arenas of my profession: scholarly ability, continuing growth, and helped me develop online courses in international communication & media through a SUNY COIL/NEH grant. Feel free to personal message me with any questions. Best, GB
