I think it goes something like this - it has been attributed to several people including Mark Twain and Winston Churchill. I do not know the actual origin though:
“A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.”
There’s considerable further evidence demonstrating that the narrative of the Munich massacre propagated by certain members here – based on the *a priori/i assumption that someone from an Islamic family, no matter how admiring he may have been of Adolf Hitler and Anders Breivik cannot be right wing, and that if he commits mass murder it’s “Islamic terrorism” by definition, regardless of the fact that he identified as an Aryan – is false, and insupportable except by circular argumentation. (Never mind the extreme condescension displayed by one particular poster in this thread, despite his comments being devoid of any actual facts!) I’m sorry if I’m being politically incorrect in challenging certain people’s fundamental assumptions, and I hope I’m not triggering anyone, but:
The people from Minneapolis didn’t actually go anywhere. I think the FBI was tipped off about them and conducted an investigation, including the use of undercover assets.
That is different than tracking travel.
Do you really want to arrest Americans for traveling to certain countries? What if someone works for an NGO in Syria?
What about Iraq? Should U.S. citizens be allowed to go there? Afghanistan? Iran? Egypt? Israel? Venezuela? Cuba? Palestine?
It does not matter if one works or not for a company; it has to do with whether or not one has to show any identification to allow for tracking.
Sorry, tracking people is not that easy as some people think. It is not a matter of government will; it is a matter of law.
As an American, I can fly to the UK on “vacation”, and then travel ALL THE WAY to Greece without ever showing my American passport (or any identification at all) to anyone and never being tracked after I land in the UK. All by train, plane or bus. Why? Because there are no Visa requirements anymore to travel all the way across Europe. And I can come all the way back the same way.
And once you reach Greece, money talks and it is costs nothing but a few bucks to bribe someone to get you a bus or train pass for Turkey. After Turkey, you walk right into Syria and the Middle East is open to you.
Even back in 1990s, my company literally had to travel with $25,000 - 50,000 “walking around” cash just to get things done - all bribes. And before people scream illegal etc - this was all explained, allowed, and condoned by the State Dept because they had to do it to to get things done. And this was just to do business.
However, it is even cheaper to get a border guard to ignore you - $20 to that guy is equivalent a month’s pay for some.
The only reason people get caught traveling to hotspots is simply because they are dumb and uninformed and stupidly use credit cards etc… However, the seasoned terrorists are neither dumb nor uninformed and are a lot smarter than Western governments and their voters and are dutifully running roughshod over Europe and the West in getting terrorists into the country.
The larger, more pernicious problem is the terrorists are now training WESTERN kids of foreign parents in the world of jihad and nothing can stop the parents from going back to visit their home country WITH their kids of Western citizenship. These kids come back to their European countries and can then travel easily to the US.
The major issue here is that none of these people can be tracked as to what they did when they LAWFULLY traveled back to their home countries.
Therefore, unless laws are changed, the problem will get larger and larger for the West because there is no stopping these Western kids from returning and traveling freely throughout Western countries, which they are being trained to destroy.
