Eva Cassidy

Hey parents,

I was wondering – has anyone heard of Eva Cassidy? Discovered her music about six months ago, and was hooked to her voice. I only have a few of her songs, but I wanted to see how well known she was for those of us too young to remember her…

Thanks.

Love her. I think she only had a regional following before her death from cancer.

Michelle Kwan’s performance piece a few years ago was skated to Cassidy singing “Fields of Gold”. I had not heard of her until then.

She is amazing-- so much heart in her voice. Don’t think she is very well known, but she deserves to be.

Amazing voice, gone way too far before her time.

My daughter and I both love her music; “discovered” her about 3 years ago.

LOVE her. she was absolutely incredible. highly recommend you buy one of her cds- some of the most beautiful vocal recordings i have heard.

Gone too soon. Played in Blues Alley to Birchmire and places in between, and worked with Chuck Brown to boot. Bye Eva…

She is/was wonderful. I have a few of her CD’s- and am haunted by her version of “Somewhere over the Rainbow”. I’ve hade her CDs for a few years. They did a segment on her on either 20-20 or Nightline or one of those shows several years ago, about a year after her death. I also adored Laura Nyro. and she died prematurely from cancer too…

Eva Cassidy is big in the audiophile community. Her recordings have even been tube remastered on heavy vinyl (those babies cost about $35 a piece). I have most of her CDs and the “Songbird” vinyl. IIRC, it was an NPR story that got her national attention.

Her pure, melisma free style contrasts with the American Idol wannabees. Her version of “Over the Rainbow” will definitely elicit goosebumps, tears, or both. Start off with the Songbird CD, then Live at Blues Alley.

Eva Cassidy is well known in Virginia and many people I know saw her perform. You Georgetown kids will help keep her music heard, I am sure.

Hope you are going to have a great second year in DC tlaktan!

I love Songbird! It is too sad that she is not around to enjoy her success.
