For the NYU transfer supplement, they’ve provided 3 prompts. Below are the prompts and my 500 character answer to them. Please be critical! No worries, I can handle criticism.

Prompt 1: Please tell us what led you to select both your anticipated academic area(s) of study and the NYU school / college / program or the Abu Dhabi campus. What interests you most about your intended discipline? Mention any extracurricular or non-school-related activities or experiences that demonstrate your interest.

Why NYU: a chance to join a globally knit community of scholars in the most entrepreneurial, stimulating city that commands the global politics of the world. Choice of studies: Politics because it is both the cause and solution behind our chaotic web–which I hope to grasp fully to become a diplomat. My executive position for the ALA in South Africa, and recent job as the PR Chair for POAG in the Middle East will benefit my ability to absorb global politics–challenge myself to a greater extent.

Prompt 2: NYU is ‘In and of the City’ and ‘In and of the World.’ What does the concept of a global network university mean to you? How do you think studying in New York City, Abu Dhabi, or one of NYU’s global sites would change you as a person and equip you to build cross-cultural relationships at NYU and beyond?

The concept represents a rare opportunity to challenge ourselves, travel abroad, to experience different cultures with no discriminating walls–proving to the world that we are not blinded by our media and shiny hollywood stories, but that we are genuinely curious and hungry to learn. Studying in NYC is an important step to prep for the global initiative–leading to inspiring abroad opportunities and long-term friends to stimulate my mind with new philosophy, knowledge, and cultural insight.

Prompt 3:If you had the opportunity to bring any person – past or present, fictional or nonfictional – to a place that is special to you (your hometown or country, a favorite location, etc), who would you bring and why? Tell us what you would share with that person.

Due to heart issues, I was prepared for her death but her life was taken earlier in a car crash, stealing my chance to say goodbye. Due to age, she couldn’t fly to NY so I would take her instead to the Sequoia Park in California–the royal sequoias are equivalent to the concrete “trees” of NYC–I would share with her my love, aspirations for the future and the remarkable sight that is New York–I would have driven her the 2,413 miles to finally see…to say goodbye Grandma, you raised me well…

Thank you!
