Evaluation of Indian school marks for MIT

harisheena: UNC is a public school, and doesn’t give FA to internationals.

@pixie The math equivalent of Irodov is IA Maron if I’m not wrong. These Russian authors are brutal.

@anirudh, harisheena I’m quite done (“done” doesn’t mean ALL problems coz that’s impossible) with HCV, Halliday/Resnick and Arihant objective but I have only started Irodov (done a few mechanics chapters) and trust me, it’s INSANELY tough and perhaps meant for Master’s Level Physics but my IIT prep sir makes us do/try them. And NO, it doesn’t mean I’m sure for IIT since I suck at Chem. No one is sure for IIT, many brilliant people screw up on test day seeing the paper.

That’s true! One of my friends consistently topped his coaching center (one of those big coaching classes) but he only managed to get a 6,000 rank or something this year. :</p>

I.E. Irodov, ah I wish I did more of that in class XI, so that I could have a reasonable chance of finishing that before IIT JEE.

Tippu do tell us if you like it. :)

@aniruddhc - CC is beneficial in many ways, only the condition is you need to use it wisely…
as Duke says - We have abundant opportunities for everyone and millions of dollars for research funds but opportunities won’t be given to you in silver bowl; you have to work hard for it and grab it passionately…

opportunities are abundant only you need to talk to right people at the right time…

@blue_box - ok… well best of luck for your four years of college experience…

That’s piracy, harisheena.

@blue_box - i know… i am editing that message right now… :frowning:
its very offensive

@blue_box - just imagine, debarghya9 contacted me personally on FB and askesd me for the book ha ha ha ha
@debarghya9 - sorry dude, no offence but couldn’t resist this temptation to tell blue box

Haha you can laugh at that, np. I’d like to get a book for free, when others are. At least I’m not encouraging others to indulge in piracy publicly.

But I think this is irrelevant to the thread so please don’t drag it here.

@deb - ha ha ha ha ha h a ha ha ha ha … its not irrelevant… it started from here and has to end here… ok talk to you tomorr… have some work
ha ha h ah a ha ha once more

Thanks a lot esconie! You still didn’t answer my LMC question though :stuck_out_tongue:
And about the getting emotionally involved bit: I guess I can’t help it. I visited the campus, I fell in love. But I don’t expect to get disappointed if I don’t get in. 3% acceptance rate for internationals, and that too, up against thousands of people like esconie (International Olympiad gods and goddesses). My chances aren’t very good, but hell, I’m applying anyway. And I’ll remain emotionally involved too. Because there’s always grad school :P

Oh by the way, esconie:
Did you arrive at Logan Airport? Did you meet a particular plump, fair Indian lady there? When you were stuck in immigrations or something? Because she told me she saw you. Well, she did get your first name right.
Don’t ask me why I’m asking, I’m just curious :P

Oh and last question (for now):
Did you do KVPY?

Yeah harish, people are super-helpful out here.

@esconie You only did Irodov? From the very beginning…Wow!! Can you advise some books for Chem and Astro olympiads? Astro seems pretty abstract and the references put up on the HBCSE website doesn’t make it that clear. Hence, I’m asking.

You guys should try out for the BIO OLYMPIAD!

I personally know someone who teaches this coaching class and gets 15+ kinds into the semifinal round for that exam and at least 1 or 2 finalists every yr for the IBO (theres only 20 in the country)

and theres only like 40 something semifinalists from ny. so 15 is a pretty good number

he’s helping me outtt

NY…hahaha I wish. I’m from India. Anyways, I can’t go for Bio Olympiad since I don’t have Bio in school (I have Computer Science).

No1 really takes bio unless they wanna do medicine.

Agreed. It’s pathetic and you have to memorize a lot.
