I’m a Los Angeles area high school junior aspiring to be a physician. I applied for a few competitive summer programs and needed your opinions. If I’m selected for both Eve and Gene Black Medical unpaid summer internship program AND a summer research opportunity at LA Biomed (where they pay $2k), which one is better? Due to date conflicts, I can’t do both. I already volunteer at a hospital but money is no objective for me. Getting a good experience is. From college selection point of view and future research or internship opportunity, does “research” have an edge over physician shadowing/internship?
I’m not in college but personally, if I was aspiring to become a physician I rather shadow so I gain get real life experience in something I will do for life. If you do LA Biomed, you might not research prescription medicine, and you will not get to see the daily life of a Physician. For college, I’ve gone to a few college tours and the guide mostly says, if you go to a UC, it’s more research, and cal state is more career development.
Oh, and I got accepted to Eve and Gene black internship i’m going to MLK center.
