Even if I'm a Math/Economics major, do I still have to do research/volunteer?

Even if I'm a Math/Economics major, do I still have to do research/volunteer?

I can't just find business/computer internships right?

Without any medical volunteering and physician shadowing, you might as well just take the $2000+ it will cost you to apply to med school and toss it out a window.

Seriously, medical schools want you to have significant exposure to medicine as a profession because they don't want to accept anyone who might change his/her mind once they get into the nitty-gritty of training.

Research is a plus, but if the rest of your application is strong you can get by without it.

A business/computer internship--kiss of death because then med schools know you're just using medicine as your 'back-up plan'.
