the 1st one is freshman year…

pray for haiti guys!

dang, you take a lot of classes each year.

Each year I took 7 classes.

Well, you clearly have an upward trend in grades so that looks good

Not everyone that gets accepted to Harvard has a 4.0, haha.

I doubt Harvard really cares that much about Upward trend.
When Harvard has a ready pool of students who have perfectly straight A’s throughout their academic life, I think upward trend doesn’t give the applicant any edge.

But in any case, I think it is hard to judge simply by academic results. What else do you have?

There’s a significant difference between a few Bs and twelve of them. How did you get a B in P.E.?

But you have a rigorous course load an upward trend. You should apply.

@arbes: i am really engaged in student council, environmental club, economics, and weightlifting. i took sats and they were 2370.

@saugus: in our class, 3 people got an a for sport. sport is the hardest subject. i heard in america if you just go then you get an a. isnt that the case?

and one more, i have 17 aps

and one more, i am valedictorian. it is very difficult to get a 4.0 in my school

If you’re valedictorian with that SAT score, you really shouldn’t be this stressed :)

Of the three people I know who went to Harvard, one had a B in 9th grade English Honors. She did badly on a Don Quixote test.

I applied with plenty of B’s!

I think your academic stats are well within the acceptance range. A few B+ should not hurt that much if you have that valedictorian and 2370 SAT score to back it up.

But I really still can’t judge: a) Your engagement in your various activities – how engaged are you? What leadership positions do you hold? How much time are you pouring into them? b) what do you intend to major? and are you strong in the areas that you are going to major in? how are your activities related to what you’re gonna major in?

In my opinion, whether you get accepted or not really depends on how you fare for interviews, or write your essays. That’s where you can stand out. Generally, these things are the deal-sealers (if there is such a word).

(I hope that helped?)

i disagree about the interviews being the deal-breaker ( i think it’s more common than “deal-sealers”). My interviewer told me that (unfortunately), his reports doesnt really matter. I think it’s a much more holisitic process. The admissions committee tries to look at you as a person. If you would be an interesting person to have at the lunch table, and able to contribute something, then you’re in.

thanks guys for such helpful replies!!

eating food, i just read so many articles about all these asians with perfect scores and such… so before i was proud of my accomplishments, but then i freaked out!!

@ arbres… i hope u got my msg!

@millencad, who was the third one?

-Relieved Antebellumera

I got one B, but it was a B+ and in a hard class…as long as you’re taking challenging classes (all AP or IB) and you’re B isn’t HORRIBLE (say, an 85 or higher hopefully) I think it will be fine.
I was accepted EA to Yale so it didn’t matter too much I guess.

^ YOu should be fine. If your school has tons of grade deflation (from what it looks like it does) and you’re number one because of that, you will do just fine.

One kid from my school last year was accepted with a 3.45. But he went to a summer program at Harvard and the professor wrote him a great rec, he was class president, in model UN and a bunch of other clubs, and got a 2400 on the SAT and a 36 on the ACT and had a massive upward trend. But I know for a fact he got a smattering of B’s and 2 C’s.

^ You are valedictorian in the context of your school you are gold.
