u dont have anything that may spark an interest with MIT…especially considering your competitors. If anything, stanford might be a little less less interested in you because of your financial status.
then again, i am being realistic, and probably rude, but you need to be able to do something drastic and HUGE for universities to be impressed.
ur year 11 scores are very low, we all know it, but if you can show HOW you bounced back and do something remarkable, then you ll have ur foot in the door.
someone who has been great throughout highschool is no more impressive than someone who has done badly, but improved drastically.
thats my opinion, and thts how i understand admissions work. u screwed up, fix it, and show that you will actually do anything to make these dream universities. although, keep a realistic outlook on it, especially with a 1.5% acceptance rate from India

Thanks a lot … i spoke to a counselor over here … and she told me that applying to universities such as MIT, Cornell and stanford is useless as they are a bit of impossible reaches for me . she told me to research on 1 good possible reach and 2 good safeties .

I was thing of :-
Reach - Duke , CMU … can you people suggest which 1 of these or some other university should i be applying instead of the MIT and Stanford …

Safeties … - I was looking at RIT , Virginia Tech and MSU … an you people suggest which 1 of these or some other university should i be applying as safeties .

Thank you all for the help

Bump … ppl

bump … …

RIT, Virginia Tech, and MSU are great. Are you sure they are safeties for you?

Michigan Tech could be a definite safety for you. Consider it if you do not mind cold weather. [Mechanical Engineering at Michigan Tech](http://www.me.mtu.edu/) If you want a warmer location for a definite safety, I recommend Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla. [Missouri University of Science and Technology, Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering](http://mae.mst.edu/)

I almost want to start a thread called DO NOT REPLY TO ANOTHER BROWNIE THREAD, but am too lazy
