Everyone in school hates me and are planning to kill me because I reported a "cheating" incident!!?

In German class, we had our final exam and after, everyone was talking about how some kids in the AP German classes had found the final exams online (they were past AP German exams). However, the students found it by accident while googling for practice exams.

So I am a pretty anti-social student and all the students in AP German (there are only 2 classes of us) had agreed to not tell our teacher about how some kids found the exams online. No one ever told me about this agreement so in class our teacher was discussing the final exam. Her exams are always crazy difficult and our class is so low that she usually ends up curving every test up 20%. She said that there were a few suspiciously high scores in both our classes and I raised my hand and told her that the entire test was on Google and that some students probably stumbled across it by accident. (I didn’t find the test on Google beforehand btw)

Our German teacher then sent an email during school that she was going to make all two classes of AP German retake the entire final exam.

I had just broken the sworn oath of silence and not even realized it. At lunch I overheard many students spreading rumors about how I was some anti-social freak who was jealous of the kids found the test ahead of time and wanted to have the highest score. I couldn’t take it!! My name was coming up in every conversation, so I ran to my German teachers room to try to clear things up and fix things. She told me that she knew the students didn’t cheat on purpose and accidentally found the exam, because other students had privately told her before I stupidly publicly said it. She said that everyone was blaming me because I had told the truth in front of everyone and that she had planned to make everyone retake the exam before I even told her.

I’ve had the worse day because I got screamed at by so many people I lost count. Everyone’s blaming me and no one will even listen to my explanation that I told the teacher by accident and that I tried to talk her out of giving another final exam. No one will listen to me and now people who aren’t in AP German all hate me.

No one will listen to me and they are actually forming groups and threatened to lynch mob me. They actually said that they wanted to publicly hang me to humiliate me for “betraying” everyone. I’m so sad and I want to go back to being invisible. I hate myself so much and cried for an hour after I got home.

Teacher’s fault for using a test that is readily available on the web.

You did the right thing. There is no shame in that. I agree with @ucbalumnus it’s 100% the teacher fault. Did you speak to your parents about what is going on?

Next time something like this happens, approach the teacher privately. I hope the teacher announces out loud to BOTH classes that she had been approached by other students and was already planning on making everyone reissue the test. If not, ask her to make such an announcement. She may have no idea of the trouble you are going through. P.S. That trouble speaks very ill of the other students!

I’ll just say one thing, it’ll all be forgotten and everyone will move on so don’t take stress. You did the right thing but don’t make a habit of it.

It showed integrity that you reported the cheating, but it showed complete failure of tact to have done it publically.

If you actually feel in danger, tell your parents and make sure that you let the administration know about the threat so that they can make sure you are not physically harmed.

Thank you for your responses! I am going to talk to my teacher and ask her to announce it to both classes. I am going to try not to get my parents involved yet, but I have talked to some supportive friends who cheered me up. Thank you!!

Ok, if these threats were actually made, you need to talk to your parents and get the police involved. Death threats are NOT jokes. Are there any emails, texts, etc. ? Do NOT delete them.
