I’ve been hearing a lot about how EXTREMELY challenging UCLA academics are, I don’t particularly mind a challenge, but I also don’t want to be pulling my hairs out because of the stress associated with school. So it leads to my question exactly how challenging is UCLA really ?? I want to major in Communication Studies and I am horrible in Science and Math so it seems like I’m bound to be a North Campus major no matter what, even if I don’t make it into the Comm major. I also am not coming from some top ranked high school, but it’s not a slacker high school either at least in my AP and Honors classes it’s rather challenging if that matters at all.

The reason you got accepted was because UCLA saw your academic potential. If you put in the same amount of work as you’ve been putting in, you’ll pass and get a degree in L&S for sure. That being said, there are easier classes and harder classes for any major, so if you research your classes well, then you won’t have to face the EXTREMELY challenging classes (assuming they arent major prereqs). Also, many of the more difficult classes are math, science, and engineering classes, so as long as you avoid those classes, you’ll have a fine time at UCLA.

If you got 5’s in science AP’s then you can handle a life and science major here at UCLA. I’m a 4th year ucla physci grad - gpa 3.97. I just got into med school. I got 5’s on my AP’s and the undergrad classes here were about the same difficulty as my high school’s.

That said it took about 20hrs/week of studying to get A’s… so it’s not a walk in the park but definitely achievable. Even with 20hrs/week studying and about another 30hrs/week i spent in various organizations, i still had about 15-20hrs/week to hang out with friends, and managed about 7-8hrs sleep on most nights. It just means you have to avoid splurging on tv shows (only watch 2hrs MAX tv shows per week), avoid wasting time on facebook (i check fb like once a week), and avoid other distractions. When you want a break find a friend to get a meal with or go and play ur favorite sport or hit the gym. If you want something exciting go clubbing/drink with friends you can trust, or hit las vegas (just don’t gamble too much, i lost 100 bucks at black jack lol and that was the last time i’m playing that).
