<p>Would citing examples from well known movies be a good idea for an essay prompt? </p>

<p>Also, would a good general cliche example (for example, the decision to bomb Hiroshima in the category: tough decisions) be better than an arcane and perhaps not so wide-known one?</p>

<p>Yes, it would be a good idea–unless of course you state false information–but don’t think that you gain an objective advantage by using a well known example. Graders don’t care how cliche your example is, or what it inherently is (i.e., how typical, childish, mundane, etc. it is). They care about how well you utilize your examples and use reasoning to support your thesis.</p>
