Examples of how some people do better on the ACT than the SAT?

Did any one of you take both tests and do better on one or the other without a long period of time in between? I took the SAT in May and in October, and I’m signed up for the December ACT. Can I expect a better score (higher than the corresponding SAT score) on the ACT if I’m more left-brained and math oriented?

January SAT: 2110 (740 math, 730 writing, 640 reading.)

April ACT: 34 (36 math, 36 reading, 32 English (30 with writing), 33 science).

A 2110 SAT is about a 31 ACT, I believe. If you don’t consider 3 months a long time and a different of 2-3 points is a lot, then yeah, I’m kind of “proof” haha.

I think SAT and ACT depend on analytic skills (SAT) or applying what you learned in school (ACT). So it all depends on if you’re more of a critical thinker or application of what you learned type of person.

I took the SAT in March and got a 1960 (710 writing, 600 reading, 650 math).

Took the ACT in June of the same year and got a 32 (32 English, 30 Math, 34 Reading, 31 Science, and 29 Combined English/Writing). A 32 is equivalent to around a 2160 SAT, so I improved pretty significantly!

I retook the SAT last week and I probably broke 2000 but I wouldn’t say I did better than I did on the ACT, despite how much more time I’ve had to prepare. So I don’t really know, I guess I just found the ACT to be easier for some reason, haha.

D1 took SAT in January of senior year=1960
Took ACT 1 month later=33. Retook ACT=34.

One of my friends had a 10xx SAT and got a 26 ACT (Which is like a 1760). Another had 2110 SAT (1310/1600) and 35 ACT. I’ve heard from my friends that they’ve generally done better on the ACT on the whole

May SAT: 2000

September ACT: (Very little prep over the summer) 35 ~2340

March SAT: 1760 with some prep
Sept. ACT: 30 with no prep

I found that the math section was easier for me and I liked the ACT format more.

I think the main reason is that the ACT questions are generally easier in English, Reading, and Math, and that even though it is “balanced” by significantly less time, I’m really fast in doing questions. So if you’re fast in going through sections, TAKE the ACT.

No explanation for success in science.

2200 SAT, 36 ACT about 3 months apart.

Wow, I’m amazed at the difference in score that you guys achieved. I’ll definitely try for at least a 32+ (with prep, of course) then, since I’m expecting a 2000-2150 from October’s SAT administration. Thanks for all the responses! More posts are welcomed :)

June SAT: 2180
June ACT: 29
They were only a week apart, but the SAT was nicer to me. (:

I took the ACT in January, and got a 35. I got a 2240 (33 ACT) on the SAT in June. Granted, that was on way less sleep, though. I just think that the ACT is better if you can work efficiently, and the SAT drags on forever. I did run out of time on the science section of the ACT though…

took the SAT three times junior year (didn’t study on my own but took a very legit sat course in the fall) superscore 2130 (710m, 670r, 750w)

took the ACT in june, blind (really didn’t even know what it was other than there was a “science” section and wrong answers = zero points, not negative) composite 35 (eng35, math34, read34, science35, english w/ essay 32)

if i’m not living proof, who is? haha

My S is taking the ACT next weekend and just took the PSAT (he’s a jr.). He’s been studying for a while now for both and we just recently switched to ACT full-time. So, I can’t really compare his scores, but we really like the ACT format better, it’s not as long and is more predictable, there don’t seem to be as many “tricky” questions, and with the Advantage Point study program, we could zone in on exactly the types of questions he needed to review. I think it also got a bit overwhelming in studying for the SAT with SOOOO many prep materials available (every single one of which I bought) :o).

I know someone with a 2040 SAT, first and only time, no major prep effort, and I think a 25 ACT, one time, no prep, about three months later. I blame her school!

My daughter took that SAT last January, got a 2140. She took the ACT in early April, with a short (2 night) prep class and did the worksheets to get used to the format. She got a 35 (36E, 35M, 34R, 34S, 35eng w/essay). In late April the state had them take it w/out writing. She was really sick that whole week and managed a 34 comp, with a 36M.

I didn’t study for either test, so my scores are basically based on my first impression and natural reaction to both exams.

January SAT- 2180 (Bad day though…)
May SAT- 2300

February ACT- 35
June ACT-36

One friend:
34 ACT, 2080 SAT
The 34 is equivalent to a 2260 SAT.

Another:
26 ACT, 1710 SAT
The 26 is equivalent to a 1760 SAT.

2160 sat; 33 act.

Son’s scores: 32 ACT > 2070 SAT
