<p>I spent my last 4 summers as a teenager working and living at a renaissance fair. All my friends were craftspeople who traveled from one fair to another, all over the country, without really having a fixed “home.” It was very different from the preppy existence I lived the rest of the time. I really took stock of my values, and I’ve never looked at luxuries (expensive cars, big houses, swimming pools) the same way since then.</p>
