Due to a combination of academic and medical (but mostly medical) reasons, I need to drop a biology class late. I submitted an exception to policy form last week. (I’m part of ARHU) My doctor faxed a letter over the next morning. I have heard nothing since. I’ve called ARHU twice, both times I was basically told “They’ll get to it when they get to it”.
One of the people who answered told me to email “arhuexceptions”, which I did. I received an auto reply telling me that I needed a letter of support from the professor before they will even look at it.
The main problem with this is that the professor is the reason I chose to drop this class. It is a 200+ lecture which is co-taught. The second professor came in after spring break and all he’s done is spent 4 lectures talking about microscopes before giving us a test that had nothing to do with the covered topics. The one time I emailed him, he basically said he can’t tell me anything about grades (ie whether or not there will be a curve, so I know whether or not I have a chance of passing.) and refused to answer a question that pertained slightly to the first professors material. The first professor did answer the question about her material (and basically said point blank that the syllabus was incorrect and has always been incorrect) but then would not say anything about grades either because they were the second professors material.
I’m pretty confident that the medical documentation should be enough-as the illness caused the bad grades until this point, and will continue to get worse if I still have the stress from this class around finals. But I have no idea what to do about our lab practical which is Wednesday (the same day our lab notebooks are due). I also have to do a group presentation next week, so this is not just me being affected. If I spend time on these things, my grades in my other classes will drop (I have a midterm and two final papers due this week) so I don’t want to be working on it if I don’t have to.
Does anyone have any advice on this kind of thing? Or any idea of even who to call who could possibly be slightly helpful? I can only email an unchecked address so many times, and I can only expect so much from whatever undergrad is supposed to answer ARHU’s phones that day.

BSCI105? (if so I hate that class too)

I tried to drop a class last semester when I was a part of ARHU and they told me to have my professor email them to confirm that it was okay to drop it (which I ended up not doing, but I assume that would’ve done the trick).

BSCI330, you haven’t started hating yet.

I emailed my professor but I’m not really expecting an answer.

I’m more concerned with the time frame. My lab practical is tomorrow and my notebook is due–it’s less than halfway completed. But I have other things extremely important things to do for classes I plan on staying in.

yikes. Good luck. Perhaps you can go to the chair of the department? Probably better to go in person if possible.

D2 is suffering through her first (and by her claim her last and ONLY) bio class this semester. If you can’t drop it, just do the best you can do. Fingers crossed.
