Excessive Sweating

A mid-20’s family member is experiencing excessive sweating. He has always been a sweater, as have other family members, but says this has been much worse for the last 5 or 6 weeks. It’s mostly underarm, but a little all over. He’s tried several prescription-strength OTC antiperspirants with no lessening of the sweating, and is now ready to see a doctor. No other known health problems.

Would he see a dermatologist? He doesn’t have a regular doctor where he’s been living recently and will be paying out of pocket, and isn’t sure what kind of doctor he needs.

Any help is appreciated.

A dermatologist makes sense. Botox is a treatment. Some of my family members have this problem to different degrees…thankfully not me. It’s a big problem.

Sorry for the first link I posted …fixed it! Time to go to sleep!

Does he have insurance and will simply be liable for the bill? If so his insurance company may have a ‘help line’ that can be called and speak to a nurse. After talking to your family member and getting more detailed information they may be able to tell you weather to go to an internist, endrocrinologist, etc. A specialist will be more expensive but going to an internist first may simply result in a referral to a second Dr.

I suggest he go in for full physical. Though this is very hopefully not the case, excessive sweating can be a symptom of lymphoma.

toneranger… did you mean to cut and paste a link from the wellness/exercise forum???
