I’m sorry if this isn’t supposed to be my first post but I didn’t see an introductory thread. So hi.
I’m going to be an exchange student for one year with AFS to Brazil, mostly because I want to master Portuguese.
I am a girl of mixed ethnicity, 1/2 Italian, 1/4 Chinese and 1/4 Egyptian… but I was born in Italy and raised in the States.
I love languages and speak Italian and English fluently. I am going to become fluent in Portuguese as well. I have studied French for 3 years and now take private lessons at the alliance francaise. I studied Mandarin one year and hope to study in China in college.
I volunteer at Give Kids the World, a vacation resort for terminally ill children and their families. I’m striving for over 60+ hours.
I volunteer to help supply identification for free for the homeless. I do this once a month for 8 hours each time.
I dance flamenco and did ballet for 8 1/2 years which is why I didn’t participate in school sports.
I was involved in clubs in school: Model UN, Asian Club, Italian Club. I took a national exam for Italian and received the best score in all of Florida.
I have worked since I was 15 and now am an Independent business owner with a balloon art service. I make the salary of a full time job.

While I’m in Brazil, I hope to apply to the following colleges (in order of preference):
UChicago
Northwestern
Johns-Hopkins
McGill
Georgetown
UMaryland College Park
American University
George Washington University

My GPA is about a 3.67 unweighted. I have taken 3 AP classes (I’m a junior by the way), and right now I am getting credits from Dual Enrollment at a community college. At my high school, I am in the top 10%. I am taking 12 classes total for the year in the community college. For the first semester, I earned two B’s and an A. This semester I am doing well so far. I am doing an SAT course with the Princeton Review and am taking the SATs in March. I am reaching a 1400/1600 which is my goal… If I reach or exceed my goals and maintain my GPA or improve, what do you think my chances are for these schools?

bump… I’m so stressed out because I’m thinking of doing EA … I don’t want to waste my money or time for such high reaching schools if I’m not fit for them.

yes, definitely to EA for UChicago. it’s famous for diversity, and it really wants students who have experienced “the world,” and it seems like you’re perfect for that.

But I’m in my junior year right now and taking community college classes… isn’t that sort of equivalent to AP?
And I’m going to be studying abroad my senior year…
Will it still be probable?
