Exchange student looking for best college for booze and books

I’m deciding on which university to visit for my exchange over the winter (and Spring break) next year.
My options are: UCLA, UW, UA, UVA

I’m mostly doing this for the whole experience of American college life (grew up watching Hollywood films, you see. A film/media student and a party girl) so I’m looking for somewhere fun and known for great frat/house/apartment/dorm parties and one where there’s various things to do around and/or near campus as I won’t have a car and I can’t say I’m a fan of the physical intimacy shared with strangers on public transport.

Could anyone please give me their opinions on these colleges in terms of student (party) life there, how the city as a whole is and if you do just happen to know, which of these would be best for film/media studies (can’t all be about play without a bit of work, ya know). I get to choose and rank my 3 most preferred out of those.

I’ve heard very good things in terms of partying and smartest about UVA, it’s also in a very cute college town.

I’d argue that UVA has the best balance, though UA is a close second with a stellar film program.

UVA

How good is film at UVA anyway?

And you couldn’t afford USC? USC has everything you want: parties on or near campus, strong film program…

UCLA by a long shot. If you want to study film and be in one of the top filming locations, you should be in Los Angeles.

yeah, how could anyone suggest anything other than UCLA for the op (from her list. I do agree that USC would be good if possible)?

I agree, UCLA would be top of the list for OP - prime film location + parties + city… Among the other three, I don’t know the quality of the film program although all have big parties.

Yes, UCLA for film would be best, and 99% of colleges will have more than enough booze and parties available, especially one with decent weather such as LA has.

Oh I definitely know UCLA is top out of my choices in terms of film study. The admission rate looks hella competitive which is why I’m doubting I would get in :/.

Does anyone know whether it’s possible to be part of greek life if I’m only there for one semester??

I don’t know about joining a sorority, but as far as going to the frat parties… My son is at Berkeley and attends frat parties from time to time. He told me girls have no problem, are always let in. Guys are usually only let in if they know one of the brothers.

Sorority parties are smaller, limited to the sorority sisters and their invited guests.

no way a sorority will let you join for just a semester

“yeah, how could anyone suggest anything other than UCLA for the op (from her list. I do agree that USC would be good if possible)?”

In my case, it’s because I’m heading to UA in the fall. and hey, it’s still a good option!

OP, like @iwannabe_Brown‌ mentioned, I don’t know of any sorority that will let you join for only a semester. I’m sorry.

;Yea getting into a frat party is not hard if you’re a female, especially if you’re with two other women.

Assuming UW means the University of Washington, that would be my next choice besides UCLA. Seattle is a pretty cool city and there’s lots to do around the university. When you say UA, are you referring to Arizona, Alabama, Arkansas, or (god forbid) Alaska? If it’s Arizona, and you’re going to be in the US, that would be my next choice. It’s a huge party school with solid opportunities for media engagement, and warm weather during the winter.
