Exchange Program v.s Study Abroad

are these essentially the same??

Except with an exchange usually your family would have to host a student as well.

you kidding~~~

my family is 10 hours away from school …

exchange and study abroad (in college) are the same thing. with an exchange, you go to one school and they send a student to your school. with study abroad, it’s not always (rarely, in fact) a “trade” between schools. if you’re talking National Student Exchange, however, that is when a student from a college in the US goes to another college in the US for a semester or year–just like study abroad, only within the country.

If you are asking from the perspective of a university campus or student, an exchange usually means a two-way exchange of students. Some students go abroad, while others come to the U.S. through the exchange agreement.

Study abroad generally refers to U.S. students going abroad to study, and may or may not refer to participation in a program that brings students here as well.
