Hey there!
For one of the Exeter required questions I am deciding to answer this prompt:
Write about a book, piece of music, artwork, or concept that has changed how you view a part of your world.
I really want to write about Bo Burnham’s comedy specials “what.” and “Make Happy” and how he illustrates the struggle of living in an age where everyone is performing on social media. However, I don’t know if this counts as artwork or concept. Do you guys think this fulfills the prompt question? Thank you all!
Yes, that would fall into concept.
Yes, you can write about it.
Sounds great and really interesting, too!
@MysticBaguette I have a question: does the essay reveal who you are?
@YoungThriver Personally I feel like it does. I talk about my experiences with social media in my other essay, and this essay sort of talks more about how I view social media if that makes sense. It talks mainly about the fact that most people I know are performing on social media but are unhappy, even though they pose this perfect life, and how that social media is essentially a prison to the people trapped in it like I used to be.
@MysticBaguette I can totally relate! It took so much out of me to just delete my Instagram after realizing how unhealthy it was for me. I contemplated it for weeks!
Social media has us teens addicted so it really is like a prison.
It’s a great topic to write about so I hope that you can execute it well.
