Exeter Extracurricular Recommendation

Prep School Admissions

Hello College Confidential,

In the Exeter Extracurricular Recommendation it says “The Extracurricular recommendation must be completed by an adult who currently coaches, instructs, or guides you in a nonacademic activity.”

Could I ask my county math team coach for a recommendation?
Could I ask my robotics coach for a recommendation?
Could I ask my quiz bowl coach for a recommendation?

@Personof2017 in our experience- yes, any of those would work. Coach is not limited to athletics.

It depends on who you might be contacting separately. For instance my daughter is an athlete so she was already communicating with the coach and chose to ask her strings instructor to write the EC recommendation for Exeter. I think you need to be strategic and make certain you spread your wealth as it relates to giving them as much and varied information about you.

Thanks! I personally think that the math team coach will have the best recommendation for me, but I am worried that will come off as too academic. The math team is actually a high school math team not affiliated with my school in any way.

5

You may be right on that. I assume your Math section of the SSAT is great so that will be somewhat repetitive so why not consider robotics if that’s something you might be interested at BS?

6

Good idea @MAandMEmom! What is BS?
