hey guys! pretty much as the title says, im currently choosing between exeter, lawrenceville, and spence. i would really appreciate BRUTAL honesty for all the schools!! thanks
yess, brutal honesty for exeter please!
apparently lawrenceville has had some troubles last spring, and the headmaster wasn’t great? bullying and etc. that being said, its likely to find some of that at every school, and it all depends on you
Happy to share thoughts. You can DM me. Will say Lville has made a huge focus upon mental health and well being. It is actually a pretty amazing time to be at the school. There are many students from Spence at Lville, loving it. And there are sibling sets that go to both lville and Exeter that have shared their thoughts. This is a big decision and all are great schools.
Hi, Lawrenceville '23 alum here. Congrats!!!
What are you wondering about? I know some people who went to Spence, and a family friend of mine teaches there, and I got the impression that it’s somehow even preppier than Lawrenceville (which is an achievement). Exeter is very competitive, although the Exonians I know are all very nice and humble, which I can’t say about students from every competitive school (my own included…). Lawrenceville’s location is an absolute blessing, and I’ve been told Exeter, NH, is very dreary, but Spence definitely wins out there by far. The House system changed my life, and even though we’re all alumni now, I regularly have reunions with my Housemates and our groupchat is abuzz fairly often.
Feel free to DM me with specific questions. I’m currently in midterm season but will be going on break soon, and will be able to help much more then.
Thank you so so so much!! I will definitely reach out :))
Your competition for college coming from Spence might be less ferocious. This is not to say that Spence is not full of bright, driven students but they necessarily pull from a smaller market.
imo yes, while it may be nice to be the top of your class to get into a great college, you will get into great colleges from all 3 schools. pick which school you WANT to be at for the 4 years. If that means going to revisit days, do it. If you want a more typical HS experience, Spence will give you that. If you want a more community oriented education, both Exeter and Lawrenceville will give you that. Good luck. Can’t go wrong with any of these great schools.
thank you so much for your advice!! i ended up going with spence :))
