Expected too much from college ?

I just started college and am feeling a bit disappointed by it. I expected a warm study enviroment like the one they described in all the brochures and booklets but instead I find myself thrown in with the masses. Trying to fight for classes and available courses with the rest of the hungry wolves whilst , three months later, still trying to understand how the wheels of this great university turns. Did I expect too much or does the beginning of college life always ‘suck’ a bit ?

I feel the same way mate. Large public school?

Brochures are marketing tools. Freshman year is a hard adjustment for most of the students I’ve known. Your experience is common for a state school and, to some extent, even larger private universities. The experience at a small liberal arts college (less than 2,000 students) is usually more personal. In any event, things usually improve considerabley by second semester as you figure out how to maneuver the bureaucracy.
