Expelled, and living in california

Hey guys,
I’m a Junior living in Southern California. I moved here from Monmouth County, NJ when I was 12 years old (Summer after 6th grade). I went to 7th and 8th grade in Huntington Beach, CA, whenceforth we moved to Irvine, CA (16 miles farther south). I went to University High School (Apparently it’s one of the top schools in the nation) for freshman and sophomore year. In the sophomore year I was fsking around (still having not received a reality check in that I better shape up if I want to go to college) and got myself expelled (In May) for hacking the district’s networks and setting up servers and whatnot off their bandwidth… Anyway, after being double-screwed by the court system (im on california probation til Nov 9, 06) and the school system (Expelled from Uni High, forced to another school in the same district, Irvine High School).

Anyway, during the summer and my time “off” I realized how stupid it was, cant begin to explain my regret, but at least it got me to start thinking about things…

Now, throughout my entire time in CA, I’ve always wanted to go back to NJ, now even stronger than before. My GPA this year (junior year) is good, all A’s right now. But if you average it with the last 2 years, it’s only about 3.2, if you add the A’s ill get senior year I suppose it’ll be higher.

My sister, 27, is a graduate of the 6 yr program at Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, has her Pharm D and is working here in CA. My brother, 23, just graduated from RU in Computer & Electrical Engineering and is living and working in Jersey.

I havent taken my real SAT’s yet, I plan to take it in March, but I’ll go by my practice tests thus far for my stats…
sat 2240/2400 <-my latest and best test
gpa (senior yr?) 3.4
a few EC’s
an essay about my move to california (and how i hurt myself) and how i wanted to follow in my bro’s and sis’s footsteps and go to RU… my english teacher who i asked told me not to even mention the expulsion, so i dont exactly know for that, definitely needs a revision in that case.

I dont know my class rank, my counseler, and everyone else at these schools think im the devil and they’re *******s (except a few of my current teachers) arent alot californians like this already, imagine that…

My question to you guys is to ask you if it’s wise to move to NJ… The opportunity has arrived and I have the backing from my family, and that probation crap doesn’t mind, as long as i show up to court on Nov 9th, and fax them proof of 80 hrs of community service before then.

I plan to move to NJ in the summer and go to middletown high school north (the school i should be going to if -california never happened-). It’s the same school my brother and sister attended.

I want to know if you guys think I could get accepted (and become a resident again) with my stats. If I have high chances then I will do it.

I want to do Engineering (preferably Biomedical Eng.).

Should I go ahead and make the move at the end of this semester??

the reason I want to move is to make my chances higher by being a resident, and also lowering the tuition. I’d also apply to TCNJ.

Sorry for the extremely long and possibly boring post, but as you can see I’m sort in a state of desperation as a result of my college career being nearly ruined as a result of my stupid acts in sophomore year (and Uni high having to keep its ego alive by beating the ■■■ out of me)

thanks alot

your stats are pretty good (the practice sat test assuming you replicate it on the real thing). You’re definitely not the typical expelled kid. But what can I say, its really up to you if you wanna come back to jersey. Rutgers is definitely a good choice but unfortunately I don’t know how the expelled thing is going to go down with colleges. I mean kids here are freaked out about being suspended. Being expelled is a very serious thing and may lead to drastic consequences. However, colleges may see that your offense is fairly harmless and let it slide (at least it wasn’t like you were dealing drugs or something). It might be benefical to come to jersey if you want new guidance counselors etc since you will probably escape most of the stigma. Even tho the counselor here will see your record, you can suck up to them and set things straight. Good luck.

Yeah, the whole expulsion issue is what I don’t know about. Either my counseler at my current HS just doesn’t know or she doesn’t care; I don’t know. Do you know who it would be wise to ask? Is it possible that they dont see it in my files other than the “Have you ever had disciplinary action” portion of the application (If RU asks, I know some schools don’t ask)… Or is it part of my ‘files’ or record that they will definitely see? Like on my transcript (or would they just see that I changed schools).

I take classes at the local community college, when it reopens I will go there and try to ask some of those counselers, hopefully they are more helpful and knowledgeable than my HS ones, I know they won’t be as biased against me at least.

Thanks alot for your input.

well an explusion is a serious thing so I would be surprised if it wasn’t on your record. Talk to the principal at your current school to figure it out.

where in monmout county? jc cuz i live in monmouth

middletown :)
