Expensive community college

For about two years, I attended Baltimore City Community College. After attending and seeing how poor the instructors taught and how terrible the tutoring services were (It was seriously like 13th grade there), I decided to transfer to Community College of Baltimore County. Things were going pretty well there until I lost my job and became extremely depressed due to family issues. In result of that I had to drop out.

I’d like to attend Community College of Baltimore County again. However, $208.00/ credit hour plus fees is just too steep (I’d still need money for my textbooks and tuition fees that FAFSA won’t cover and I have to pay that tuition rate because I live outside of Baltimore County).

Because of what I stated above, going back to Baltimore City Community College is just too much of a gamble.

I’m just not sure about what to do (My credit is poor so loans are a no-no and there aren’t many scholarships around for older students (I’m 27)

If you are local for Baltimore CCC, you are stuck paying out of area rates at all the other MD CCs unless you enroll in one of the state-wide programs that are only offered at the specific campus where you want to study. If you can’t move to a different county, then take a look at the state-wide programs offered at CCBC. One of them might be a good match for you.

How many credits do you have? Maybe it is time to pay a visit to the Transfer Admissions Office at Towson U. If you work full time and study part time, that might be a better option than being at a CC.

Wishing you all the best!

Thanks for your help, happymom. I would most definitely considered moving but I’m not even in the right situation financially to do so. The only type of work I qualify for is cashier work and there just aren’t many of those jobs. It’s a pity that so many of these other minimum wage jobs do not wanna train their employees or consider anybody without experience.

To answer your question, I have 20 credit hours.

I tried applying for so many waitress/cashier/janitorial/security/other random mininum wage jobs and I haven’t had any luck.

Not trying to go off topic but my income has been a negative domino effect on pretty much my entire life.
