Yea earlier my senior year i wanted to apply to hunter but i was like 100% sure i wouldnt get in cus its a picky school. And never heard of city college @nw2this
You live in NYC and never heard of City College??? You need to broaden your horizons.
…i dont live in nyc i live in pa. Dont know why you assumed i lived there @TomSrOfBoston
I don’t think anyone would describe Penn State as a cheap state school. It costs close to $30k for instate students if living on campus and not qualifying for financial aid.
Did you look at St Francis University? They have a 5 yr PA program.
Also there are other schools like Gannon, Seton Hill, King’s College, did you apply to any of them, did you run net price calculators?
@mommdc 1) penn state is $15k for me and
2) kings college is a private school so that does nothing but bring me back to square one
City College is not as good as Penn State, but the oos tuition would be about the same. It is a few blocks up the road from Columbia U and it is a locals college.
Like literally my teacher went there and had to pick up extra odd jobs to pay for his student loan from kings @mommdc
Best of luck Jae.
You will not just pick where you want to go after your bachelor’s degree at Penn State, you will have to apply
to PA programs which is very competitive. You will have to take out grad loans and that will be a lot of debt alone.
If you pay $15k for Penn State then are you doing a 2+2 program with a branch campus and then UP?
Or can you commute or get federal and state aid?
If you run net price calculators on a private school’s website it can give you an estimate of grants and scholarships a school may give you and for a low income student that might be the same or less than a state school.
5 yr PA programs, if you have the HS stats to get accepted, have the advantage of a shorter program and possibly not having to apply to PA master program if you meet requirements.
Some of them also offer merit and need based aid.
Anyways, if Pace is not affordable, I guess your only choice is PSU, which is a fine school.
With grad school debt of $100 k lurking in the future you don’t want to add much more undergrad debt.
Or you will be in the same situation as your teacher when it comes time to pay back loans.
Penn State for 15K is a very good deal.
Do your best and enjoy college!
@MYOS1634 thank you
Just wanted to update and give a big thank you to all of you who answered this question(and my parents of course) because I am so happy i choose penn state because so many great things! Upon the 3rd week of my freshman yr so far I applied and got into a biofuels lab research program on campus as an intern. It is great experience for bio/med students where we work with genetics and plant cells. Its an awesome program and i can’t wait to start. Also my parents got a refund check of 5k from penn state that completely pays my apartment housing and the loan I’m taking out for the whole year is only around $5k because i got a new grant. So my parents are paying basically nothing for a much better school than pace. Thanks again everyone! have a great day
Congratulations, @Jae11789. I’m glad it’s worked out so well for you.
^^me too!
Deleted. My point was moot.
Congrats, so glad it turned out so well for you!
Congrats - Penn State was a much better choice than Pace!
Congrats! Penn State is a great school. I’ve never heard of anyone getting so much FA there, however. Do you mind sharing how you got the cost down so much? $15,000 is less than half price and PSU is not known for great aid–need-based or merit. Thanks!
Thanks for the update!!
way to go Jae !!! awesome ! so glad you chose PSU.
