S who is a junior in education is considering applying for his student teaching through “Chicago Semester” :

Chicago Semester is an off-campus program rooted in the Christian faith. The program challenges students to integrate their personal, professional and public lives through internships, academic seminars and urban experience.

He met with an advisor yesterday about it and is going to try and secure the names of a couple of graduates at his college that participated in the past so he can ask them some questions. He currently attends a small private school in a smallish town so the Chicago experience will be a vastly different experience for him in terms of student teaching AND living.

He has interest in working after graduation in a high need school district. He has had several class experiences in his smallish college town and is working daily in the town’s public school system now as a staff person in their after school enrichment program, so he feels it would be beneficial to have a different student teaching experience (outside of the college cities school district).

The website shows a good history of this program and many opportunities for the students who participate in it. Sounds like fin aid would carry over from his home school. Housing is “provided” - as in most of the students live in a particular apartment building.

Anyone have any light to shed on this program???
