experience with sleep number beds?

We need a new mattress, tried the sleep number bed in store and liked it but am hesitant because some mixed reviews online and it is a very different product so wondering if any have feedback on their experience with sleep number beds. H doesn’t seem to like the Temperpedic brand so looking for other options to help with back issues.

We have two friends that had the sleep number bed. One family returned it because they said it was cold. The second family likes it, but has a memory foam topper on it. They say it is still nice and the back issues were the reason they got it.

We bought one last year. Can’t understand the “cold” comment unless they bought a bottom of the line model
“sleep number” is an adjustable air mattress within a choice of top layers and supports.

Advantage, you can change you mind about firmness at ant time
Disadvantage, it’s noisy to adjust

If you want a coupon, pm me and ill see if mine are still not outdated

We’ve had ours for about a year (m7 model) and are very happy with it. Ours is very quiet when making firmness adjustments.

Sent from my ADR6350 using CC

Ours might be a lot quieter if we hadnt just ripped out our carpet so there is wood under all the legs and the motor.

We have had one for about five years. We live in the desert so haven’t thought it was too cold! I love the bed, my setting is really soft and my husbands side has a lot more air in it. So it is good that each person can pick their own setting. I can’t say much about the noise, because I set it on the setting I liked and have left it there. I am so used to my soft, comfy bed that when we travel the hotel mattresses kill my back and I can hardly walk when I first get up, so I know the select comfort bed is making my back happy. Hope this helps.

I have had mine for 11 years now. I love it!!!

I tried it at a hotel we stayed at it was OK but not significantly better than any other bed H & I have slept in. My BIL & sister bought one & I have not heard one complaint (he has a bad back, which is why I believe they bought the bed). It’s good where people have different mattress preferences. For example, BIL likes the bed much firmer than sis.

If you want to spend the night in one check out the Radison Hotel chain. Many of their hotels have these beds. I do not have a sleep number bed but have stayed at a few Radison Hotels so have slept in them - not a fan of this bed.

We have one and like it. I have back problems and no longer wake up with mattress related pain (which I do at our lake house). I don’t think trying it a night or two at a hotel is adequate for really deciding if you like it, because you have to experiment with the settings over a period of time to find the one which really works best for you. So, you basically are throwing the dice when you buy one.

Best part is being able to adjust based on how you are feeling - you can adjust softer or firmer - and don’t have to flip the bed ever. Bought one for my dd also and it will be easy to uninflate, pack and bring to college.

We have had ours almost 10 years, we would never buy anything else but a Sleep Number. Once you find your “number” you really don’t change it that much. Trying to talk the kids into it as they settle in apartments as they can be moved so easily.

Try a Tempurpedic memory foam bed as well for comparison.

My friends that have them love them… but they are expensive.

We have had one for 14 years–old enough that it is technically a “Select Comfort” bed. My sleep number is 25, Dh’s 65…this is why we have one :D.

I like it well enough. I think I would prefer a regular mattress if we could find one that was soft on one side and hard as a rock on the other. We had a firm mattress before and I woke up with back pain every morning for years. First night with the new bed, no back pain.

We got one step down from the top of the line, pillow top. We have regular box springs vs their platform system. At the time we got our bed the platform was poorly designed and squeaked horribly.

We have a Nautilus sleep system bed, not sure they’re made any longer. Dh needed a change for his back and decided on this. My bed is simply heavenly. But I don’t know if it’s the amount of inflation I have or the incredible pillow top that is on it. LOL. It’s my favorite place in the world, pretty much.

Girlfriend and I got a sleep number bed a few years ago. I’d say definitely go into a local store with a price listing from QVC and see if you can haggle their price down. No matter where you buy it from it’ll get delivered UPS and take maybe an hour to assemble.

I absolutely love the sleep number versus our old memory foam bed. It feels cooler, is better on my back, and just in general more comfortable. My girlfriend doesn’t like it quite as much. The biggest problem we’ve found is because the king/queen are made of two separate mattresses, the area in the middle tends to be a canyon. We’ve come up with a few creative ways to fill it in using old mattress pads and such, but it can still be annoying if one of us has our number very different from the other.

My DH and I got a sleep number bed years ago when we slept better on a hotel mattress when on vacation than our own bed! We added a 2” memory topper on top of it. Our sleep numbers range from 25-40, depending. Ours is a queen, and since they are two separate mattresses, basically, the middle of the bed seems to be a mountain, since our sleep numbers are on the low side…one thing that seems to have gotten more noticeable over time. I used to change my side to 100 during the day so it would look nicer…until the power went out and I couldn’t dial it down. My back really hurt the next morning!

As for price – when one considers that we spend (or are supposed to spend) seven to eight hours a night sleeping, I don’t think that they are extremely expensive. Sometimes people spend tens of thousands of dollars on cars, and may only spend a couple of hours a day in them; certainly most don’t spend 7-8 hours per day. We’ve been very happy with our sleep number bed.
