experiencing construction of a home helpful?

I had a question for the experienced architect students and professionals…

I am currently studying this major and had recently joined a volunteer organization that helps build homes. The reason for this decision was to get the real feel of a building being constructed through my senses.

Would this be a beneficial experience for me? Maybe not so much in the near future, but hopefully down the line if I do become a licensed architect?

I think it is absolutely useful, it will teach you what those poor souls who have to build what you draw deal with everyday.

thank you for your reply rick!

As a structural engineer, I think it’s a great idea! Architects and engineers have to understand construction details as well as aesthetics and math.
