Experiment: Likely letter people, did you apply for fin aid?

I didn’t. I’m curious to see how many did that received likely letters.

Please…40,000 a year. You best believe I applied for financial aid

yep… i’m willing to bet that the majority did too

I don’t know…I’d be curious to see the exact figure.

(since higher SAT scorers tend to be getting them, and higher SATs nationwide tend to correlate to higher income)

Yes, for financial aid.

My son got his “Likely Letter” today and we have applied for aid!

Congratulations,

Dartmouth is need blind for U.S. citizens, and citizens of Mexico and Canada so whether or not you need or applied for financial aid would not play into the equation.

do int’ls get likely letter? and ppl who havent had interview?

I don’t know about internationals because the admission process is not so cut and dry, but some students don’t get the opportunity to interview because sometimes interviewers are not available where they live.

sybbie719 - did u have interview? cos I live close to NYC

Daughter had an interview late february and is now an happy 08. Yes she had her interview in NYC where we live

There is no way in hell I’d get one red cent, so I did not apply. I don’t think financial aid is given out to only children (without special needs), with two working parents who significantly benefited from Bush’s tax cuts.

Joey

sybbie719 oh so maybe I will have one - I live like 30 minutes form NYC

I applied for financial aid, and actually happened to receive a letter from the financial aid office a few days before the likely letter, to notify me about missing materials. The letter really tried to stress that the financial aid inquiry did not mean a decision had been made on my application status-I wonder if this is a coincidence or not.

Financial aid is a must have and I applied.

I think you can be pretty confident they truly are need blind.

Encomium,

Do you like/dislike dartmouth? Are you considering attending if accepted? I only ask because of what you posted in another thread:

“I happen to think the Columbia kids are much cooler than the Dartmouth ones”

I’m not trying to cause problems, I’m just curious. It sounds like a rather harsh statement even if you do prefer an inner-city school to Dartmouth–if, in fact, you are actually considering dartmouth as an option.

Yes I did.

Don’t worry about it, two different functions in two different offices with two different form letters.

Kalidescope, I’m not considering attending. (though I received a likely letter)

(but I don’t choose colleges on location, I choose them on academic offerings that coincide with my interests)
