<p>I would absolutely avoid using this as a primary essay topic. I’ve seen others suggest that the essay could “explain” issues, but I think Sally is spot on in saying that by NOT using it you can send a more positive message about who you are.</p>
<p>Sally was an admissions officer for many years (and I have never been), so she can correct me if I’m wrong, but I agree strongly with author Alan Gelb when he advises that there are three things your essay should never do: Brag about yourself, explain/apologize for your behavior, or complain about anything.</p>
