I don’t care much for privacy so I’ll just paste it. It probably sucks anyway.

My academic record is mostly a joke. Throughout high school, with the exception of my Battle of Thermopylae-like last stand in the final semester of junior year, I suffered from what I affectionately called “chronic hyperprocrastination”, characterized by procrastinating so hard that the work NEVER got done. Admittedly later than ideally, I realized that vegetating in front of my computer playing games all day would not get me anywhere meaningful in life, especially after a particularly scathing guilt trip by my father. Stepping up my game became crucial. My 2nd semester grades for junior year, and continuing grades in senior year, hopefully show that.

But a couple minutes with a calculator brought some bad news; even with that Straight-A semester, my GPA was still in the gutter. Since technology has yet to give us adequate time-traveling ability, all I could really do was retake a failed semester of science over the summer at my local community college. With all that could be done for my GPA done, I pushed towards improving my qualifications in other ways.

If nothing else before being cured of chronic hyperprocrastination, I always had a knack for doing well on tests. After a month with a prep book borrowed from some senior, I took the SAT and did even better than expected. And that was it. After maximizing my stats as much as possible at that late time, and all that was left to do was cross my fingers that it had not all been for nothing.

[/end]

For those curious, my GPA came out to 2.8 and my SAT was 2130. GPA for that last semester was 4.0 UW (two APs) and I’ve been pulling a 4.0 UW (3 APs) this year too.

agree with fizix2. but the parts about improving your qualifications, maximizing stats, sound strange to be included in the essay. you normally don’t say directly to people, or employers, “this is what i’ve been trying so hard at lately to make myself look better to get into your school/company”
or maybe i’ve read the wrong connotations in your essay.
good luck!

I suffer from chronic hyperprocrastination, too! I’ve been trying to find a cure on Facebook/YouTube.

I loved your essay; it made me lol. But, are colleges going to think you only worked hard the last 2 years to get into college, and then return to your procrastination once you’re in college?

How bad are your grades? If its close to failing then a life-redirection essay is well worth it to send in. Honestly you really don’t want to sound like you’re making excuses- which you did a good job avoiding.

Obviously something like this isnt going to salvage an ivy/high end college application. And no essay can raise the dead. But overall, I think you twisted the essay off in the right direction. It’s not a boring excuse- its an entertaining read.

Considering your grades, i think sending in this was a very good idea. The whole thing is very nicely done. Slick. Will probably help a lot. Good Luck!
