Expos.

I just discovered my expos section’s sakai page today, and i wasn’t sure if i should switch sections or stick with my professor for a few reasons:

the professor isn’t on ratemyprofessors

the class size is kind of small (just under 20, according to the site members tab). unless this isn’t small and i’m just used to big classes.

his syllabus says that there are vocab quizzes based on the humanities reader. none of my friends said anything about vocab quizzes.

three oral presentations are part of our grade.

the syllabus just scares me in general! do all expos professors abide by the same syllabus?

None of the other professors I could switch to are on ratemyprofessors, so is it worth the risk? should i wait until after the first class to see what i want to do? Any feedback is appreciated!

Hello,

Yes you should definitely switch professors ASAP, I took expos in the fall and I did not have to do Vocabs, nor did any of my other friends.

The class is indeed small sized, up to 20, it’s nice though  you get all the attentions that way.

I don’t even know why anyone would assign vocabularies from reading selections of Humanities Reader. I haven’t encountered a reading selection with big words or any words that I do not know. Besides, anyone at a freshmen college level should know the words anyway.

The syllabus is universal on the level that you have to read so many selections and write so many papers, but what you read is different across the board, they do that to try minimize plagiarism (bc if everyone were to read the same stuff, then the chances of similar ideas can accumulate)

Oral presentations are universal as well, but it depends on who your teacher is, my teacher used our participation as oral presentation.

Not all expos teachers abide by the syllabus, you just have to find the right one.

I had Alessandra Sperling for Expository, and I would definitely recommend her to you.
Her section currently for the Spring is Section: KJ index 52836 on Livingston.

and most of the expos teachers are part time professors, not really professors, that’s why they do not appear on ratemyprofessors

Hope that helps :)

Thank you so much! I switched to her  It’s an 8:40 but hey I’ll take anything! Really appreciate the help :D

You’re welcome  And You will like the class, definitely. She is energetic and fun.

Expos. isn’t bad, I received an A in the course. As long as you keep up with the readings and do not fall behind with deadlines, you’ll be fine. As for the presentations they are very informal, and one is presentation on grammar so no need to worry.

Hey, thanks so much for the recommendation  I had a great time in her class
