Express Application

Hey! I heard that NEU offered an Express Application and wanted to see if there was any truth in that. If it does actually exist, what is/was the criteria and when are express applicants expected to hear? I personally did not apply express but am just interested to know more about it. Thanks!

Yes, I was wondering the same thing myself. If it was offered, it wasn’t publicized anywhere. I have been on their mailing list since junior year, and have visited their website at least 4 times a week since november, and I’ve never heard anything about it. I would really like to know if it was offered, and what benefits an express application would offer. Gracias Rhapsody!

i applied using the express candidate application. I am not sure how u r able to qualify, i just got an email from them saying they offered me this application. Benefits:

no application fee

much shorter than regular app only 1 essay, total of about 4 pages

you hear back by jan 31 and its not EA or ED thus not binding

priority for financial aid

if ur applying to NEU…GOOD LUCK!

Wow, thanks, that explains a lot. One more question (lol), did you need to be invited or was it open to all applicants??

i believe you needed to be invited

heres the email i got from them

I’m pleased that you’ve chosen to discover more about Northeastern University, and I’d like to show you an easy way to apply.

An Express Candidate Application has been reserved for you. This special program is being offered to those students we feel would be a great match with Northeastern. This offer is unique for several reasons:

This application has no fee.
Apply by Wednesday, December 1, 2004, and receive an admission decision by January 31.
You will receive priority consideration for merit scholarships.

You have been really helpful, thanks for everything!

U r very welcome, good luck

Does anyone know if this is available for transfers?

i htought the reg app only had 1 essay too. did I miss something?

Yes, thank you very much for your help. Let us know when you get your decision.

Brown- I don’t think it was offered to transfers, since it wasn’t offered to all freshman applicants. And even if it WAS offered, it’s way passed the deadline. But I read somewhere that transfer decisions come 6 to 8 weeks after they got all your stuff. Good luck to everyone!

It sounds similar to the Blue Ribbon application from Brandeis.

I thought that everyone who applied by December 15th received priority consideration for merit scholarships. Do Express Applicants receive priority over everyone else?

maybe…the idea that I get about express/blue ribbon/etc applications is that colleges offer them to overqualified students who might not even apply otherwise to try to boost the quality of their applicant pool and, ultimately, their freshman class. My friend who has absolutely amazing stats (got into MIT) and showed no interest in Brandeis and is being asked by them to do the blue ribbon app.

I don’t think that’s true for Northeastern because some of the kids who DID get the express app didn’t have stats that were amazing. The one’s I saw were almost below average.

To the people who did get the express application: what were your stats?

i was offered express app.
from what i understand eireann is right… priority consideration for merit aid / honors program

your stats definately are above average, but I don’t think that’s true for ALL of them. I think it had something to do with contact with the school. Had you been talking to the school a lot beforehand?

I think it might be some random thing. I’m only a junior but in Oct and November I got several letters and even a form letter from the head of the computer science dept(I requested info during the summer)urging me to hurry and get my express application in before the December 1 deadline. Funny thing is I never recieved an express application.

Yeah I did the express app thing too. It’s funny, they say they need all materials by December 1st, but they apparently just got my final materials January 1st, I hope my application is still valid…

Thanks so much for your help. Good luck to everyone and let us know when you guys get in!
