College has been a hard process for me which is sad especially considering the fact that I always did well in school up until my freshmen year. My GPA is currently a 0.6 which disgusting I’m aware. I was dismissed from the school I was attending but now I’m looking to go back as a Fashion Business Management major. Ideally I want to go to a school like FIT or LIM but with my GPA I don’t think there’s any chance of me getting in. I was considering applying as a non matriculated student .
Look up the requirements for admissions and inquire what you can do to improve your chances. Perhaps there are classes you could take now to improve your GPA enough to transfer into the school and fulfill basic requirements.
Consider going to your local . You have to show whatever your next college is that you have figured out what happened and can do well in college.
I think you should figure out what went wrong last time. You say you didn’t study hard,…but why?
Health, mental health, relationship issues? Too much sports/partying/Clubs/videogames? Working too many hours?
Feeling like what happens if you try your best but still don’t do well? Too much freedom/executive function issues?
Not prepared?
Address your issues…then set yourself up for success. For example, If you have to work 40 hours/week, then take 1 or 2 classes per semester.
identify why you didn’t do well. Make a practical plan to counter any problem.
Attend a CC near your home. Retake any class you got a C,D, F in.
Make an appointment with tutors right away, well before any hint of trouble and make sure with their help that you understand the material. Go to office hours every week, rotating the subjects. To have something to discuss, write in your notebooks’ margins questions that you have about the reading/exercises/problem sets/lectures. Write these down as soon as the question is rides in your head. Handwrite in notebooks to keep all notes together and to use your muscles’ kinetic memory help your actual memory.
Do not overload. If you work 20hours+, take a maximum of two classes. Maximum 3 if you work 15-19 hours. 4 classes if you work 10-14 hours a week. See how you can handle both job and classes before you increase the number of credits you’re taking.
You CAN get into FIT but you’ll have to be methdicl about it.
