Extended-X Grading policy

<p>Not that I’m hoping anyone is getting "D"s or "F"s, but I did want to make students aware that Indiana has a special grading policy that is not well-known or communicated.</p>

<p>The extended-X grading policy allows a student who receives a “D”, a “F” or even a “C” or “B” to retake the class in an effort to improve upon their first grade and have the previous grade removed from the computation of their GPA, though not removed from their record.</p>

<p>The only rule is that the student must not have yet completed 45 units of college credit (including both at Indiana and all other colleges).</p>

<p>This is information primarily for any freshman that is really worried about a particular grade or two this semester–in other words, don’t worry–you can retake the class or classes and get the first grade removed.</p>

<p>Thanks Calcruzer. This is good info to know, just in case! Hopefully, son won’t need to use this policy, but you never know. </p>

<p>OT: How is your son liking McKinley’s Finite math class? My son was hoping for an A on the first test, but made a careless mistake and wound up with a B. Next time he says he’ll use all of the time allotted and doublecheck his work more carefully. Live and learn…</p>

<p>My son really likes McKinley. My son missed one problem on the first test when he copied down some stuff off the board (that they failed to put on the test paper) wrong. </p>

<p>After he got his test back, he spent about 10 minutes after class with McKinley to try and figure out where he went wrong–and McKinley agreed with his computations–only at the very end to discover the transposition error.</p>

<p>Like you said–careless mistakes are usually the culprits.</p>
