Extra curricular activities list

Could someone help list extra curricular activities that one could participate or excel before applying to private schools. Thanks

Do you take music lessons? Play a sport? Volunteer? Belong to a book group? Participate in scouts or a church group?

They are asking what you do when you’re not at school.

The answer will be different for each individual. Find activities YOU care about and YOU can excel at.

Thankyou for the options so we can explore. How do you look for book groups, how does being part of book group add to your ECs ?

Our public library has book groups. Maybe yours does too?

Our library had book groups. So did our church. It “helps” however you want it to – it encourages you to read and finish books you otherwise wouldn’t, it allows you to connect with other people who like to read, you’re interested in what other people see of feel, etc.

You’ll see kids who are applying who have amazing accomplishments. Schools also understand that to have those, not only did you need hard work and talent, you also probably needed to be in a place where those things were possible and that you needed parental support (driving, financial, etc.) Not everyone has that, and it’s fine. They are looking for students who will engage with their community both in and out of the classroom. ECs are one way you demonstrate that. And it really should be what YOU like, not what you think someone else likes. Try out for a play, join or form a board game club, run for student council, babysit-- just act on your interests.

The answer lies in what do you enjoy, what do you want to do ? This is not something to ‘force’ but rather to be what interests you. Like dogs? Walk them at the shelter. Like tennis? Join the hs team. It’s summer - get a job. There’s many things you can do but start with what interests you.

Anything you enjoy doing outside of your academics, and sometimes outside of your school adds to your ECs. It doesn’t have to be anything exotic. It has to be something the student enjoys doing.

SO
.have you had a conversation with this kid about what they like?

Also
how old is this student?

Find activities the student cares about. You know, they don’t need to excel, they just need to do and enjoy.
