gpa pretty mediocre

gpa? that is the number one aspect of the application. what does mediocre mean? rank in class? extenuating circumstances? ECs are great and important, but at the end Harvard is an academic hothouse and you need to show you can be a real–not a marginal–student. (unless you can dunk a basketball with either hand–see the reports of the major recruit who is accepting Harvard but has agreed to do a PG year to prep him academically…).

Do you understand that admissions to Harvard Medical School is an entirely different process than undergraduate Harvard College admissions?

For undergrad, you will need a great GPA, rather than a mediocre one. For medical school, you will need an outstanding college GPA, great MCAT scores, substantial medical ECs (research), community service, and great recs.

You’re all over the board, trying to find out your chances of getting into Harvard college. Then you erupt with this thing about Harvard Med.

So which is it? Do you want Harvard college? Or do you want to be a physician? You don’t seem to know what you want. And I bet if you were asked “Why Harvard” your answer would be something along the lines of “prestige” – b/c you haven’t even done your homework to know that Harvard College and Harvard Med school are two separate institutions. Am I right?

Please let us know that you’re not another Harvard fetishist…

Hi, I’m currently in eighth grade and I hope to go to harvard college one day. I saw that you mentioned you were in a club called HOSA. I was wondering how i could join this club when i reach high school, or if I would possibly even be able to join it now. Is it run through the school or is it an outside type of club? I tried to get information off of the website, but it didn’t have a section about joining. I would be very grateful if you happened to be able to answer these questions. I hope to someday pursue a career as a pediatric cardiologist.
