Extra-Curriculars

I know I won’t be able to do EC’s like I did as an undergrad, but it seems that many graduate student’s don’t take part in anything.

I don’t mean, you just got married, or you just had a baby.
Or that you work a full-time job and go to school p/t.

But, doesn’t balance and moderation equal success in graduate school?

Or do you feel like you don’t want to socialize with immature undergrads?

I think most Ph.D. students have too much on their plate to think about organized extracurricular activities at their university. There are courses, requirements as a teaching or research assistant (usually 20 hours a week), keeping up with professional journals, working on your own research ideas, working on your advisor’s research and sometimes outside employment to make ends meet. Any free time often winds up being used to take care of your personal and social life. Most of us who have been Ph.D. students would have been quite happy to socialize with immature undergrads but who had the time?

Plus, if the grad student is in the position of teaching said immature undergrads, socializing with them may be a bad idea at any rate.
